Divyam Chopra of class IX made everyone proud by participating in 64th school National Soft Tennis Games held at Bhuvneshwar (Odisha). He has represented DPS at Lawn Tennis Districts and Sahodaya School Complex Cricket.
Roger Federer, a world famous tennis player is his role model. Divyam too aspires to scale new heights in the game.
Prabhjot Kaur Randhawa, the sports icon of DPS Khanna has become a role model for many youngsters. Being a student of XII Medical, she believes in persistent hard work and hard core discipline in life. Her role model is Heena Sidhu, a famous Indian shooter. Apart from being an excellent shooter, she is very fond of playing badminton. She has played badminton for the state. In her leisure time she likes to read good books. She loves the world of colours, paint brushes and of course the canvas! She has a string of achievements in 10 m Air Pistol Shooting and wishes to rise to International acclaim during her tournaments to be held in Germany.She follows the motto DPS ‘Service Before Self’ in a true spirit as she volunteers to help the underprivileged children of the society by donating clothes etc.Achievements:1. Ranked among the top 30 players at Open Nationals for Girls & has grabbed the 27th Rank out of 500 participants in U-17 category.2. Silver medal in School Nationals3. Bronze Medal in Open State4. Transport System of DPS Khanna Highly Appreciated
Safety of students and staff being the top priority of Delhi Public School Khanna, a one day workshop on safety measures for the transport staff was organized last week.
Towards its next move to provide better & safe transport system, DPS Khanna invited a team from Traffic Control Department on March 16, 2018 to assess the system. This request was necessitated to double check the movement of students and vehicles in the school though arrival and dispersal takes place in the personal presence of the Principal and other staff members in DPS Khanna.
Inspector Jaspreet Singh, Incharge Saanjh Kendra, Khanna arranged the visit of Shri S. Balwinder Singh ASI, Traffic Police, Khanna and S. Kamaljit Singh, the Head Constable visited the school and monitored the dispersal system. They were quite happy and satisfied with the system.
They further delivered some valuable guidelines to the transport staff and the students for the smooth functioning of the system.
Mr. Jaswinder Singh the Transport Incharge, Mr. Deepak Kaura, Office Superentendent of DPS Khanna, thanked the resources persons.
DPS Khanna Organized a Sensitization Workshop for the Transport Staff
Inspector Jaspreet Singh and ASI Harjinder Singh from the ‘Saanjh Kendra, Khanna’ were the resource persons. They imparted the drivers and the conductors with essential information about certain rules to be followed on road such as speed limit, safe driving etc. They emphasized that the children must be handed over to their parents or guardians while back home or they should be brought back to school in case no escort is found to receive the child.
This workshop was quite instrumental in benefitting the staff as they learnt the ways and techniques of behavior on road and their queries were answered satisfactorily.
Graduation Ceremony at DPS Khanna
DPS Khanna acknowledges the amazing and special milestone achieved by the pre-primary students by conducting a Graduation Ceremony in the school premises on 27 February, 2018. The programme began with the welcoming of over two hundred parents followed by a beautifully choreographed dance number ‘it’s a beautiful day’. The young ladies and gentlemen of tomorrow were honoured with the scrolls given to them by their proud parents. The other scintillating performances and thanks giving speeches by the young graduates casted a spell on the audience. The Chairperson of DPS Khanna, Mr.D S Bains congratulated the young graduates on their achievement and also the teachers for their dedication and hard work in shaping the students through education and another co-curricular activities. He thanked and appreciated the parents for the fantastic role that they had played to facilitate this process. It was indeed a joyous and memorable day to the little ones, the faculty and parents equally.
Winter Readership Workshop Culminates in DPS Khanna
The literary fervour of the workshop was at its peak on the second day of the workshop. It included a variety of activities such as ‘Story Mapping’, ‘Soap Box’, ‘Dumb Charades’ etc. The students also solved worksheets based on the reading of the stories of their own choice.
The students displayed their creative skills by making cover pages of the books, changing the genre of the literary items given to them and giving suitable titles to their creation. Lots of fun and frolic could be witnessed during the ‘Dumb Charades’ activity which proved to be the most favourite activity of all age group students as the students had to enact the story allotted to them and the rival team had to guess the story.
Day one of the workshop included a string of group activities such as ‘Story Creation’, ‘Ice breaking”, ‘Treasure Hunt’ etc. wherein the students had to find the books of different genres and authors from the library shelves; create an interesting story on their own in quick succession; crack a puzzle etc.
These mind boggling exercises bubbling with literary twists were designed to make the students better acquainted with their own library, strictly adhering to the library rules and etiquettes. The winners of all the games were hugely applauded.
Over all, it was a very enriching and unique experience for the curious young minds. It gave a completely new dimension to the learners to visualize the library from a different perspective. The Kitaab Club made the students aware that reading is not just looking at the words or pronouncing them rather it is a multifaceted process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency and creativity. The main motive of the workshop was to engage the students in literary activities that encourage active learning and learning by doing.
The workshop concluded with a high note and received a huge response from the students. The winners of different activities were felicitated with certificates. Mr. D. S. Bains, the Chairman of the school has advised that such reading workshops should be organised on an annual or bi-annual basis to give the students optimum exposure in literary endeavours.
A Career Exploration Programme held in DPS Khanna
The workshop was conducted in two phases: Headstart and Pathfinder. The ‘Headstart’ is designed especially for the students of grades VIII & IX so that they can begin explore careers and subject options for the future. Whereas the ‘Pathfinder’ was basically for the students of grades X & XI to help them build career path so that they can enjoy and flourish in life.
The workshop comprised of a two hour interactive session with students as well as their parents to understand over a 100 career options across Sciences, Commerce and Arts. The workshop was followed by an online test for students to get individual profiles such as ‘Star Careers & Suitable Careers’. The test was conducted through psychometric testing tools, presentations and discussions.
Mrs. Richa Dwivedi Saklani, an IIM, Ahmadabad & St. Stephons College, New Delhi alumnus & the author of “ The Ultimate Guide to 21st Century Careers’ was the resource person for the session, “ Headstart’. Ms Kritika Malhotra who has an extensive experience in organizing career guidance sessions in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and Switzerland facilitated the ‘Pathfinder’ session.
The programme facilitators enabled the students to overview different subject and career options from a different perspective. The students had an enriching experience in knowing about Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Business, Media etc. The students and their parents participated actively during the interactive session and expressed their views. All their queries were answered adequately. The workshop received an overwhelming response from the students.
DPS Khanna Organizes 7th Annual Sports Meet
Next, a spectacular and a well synchronized March Past by all the four houses left the spectators awestruck. The most interesting aspect which embellished the event was the splendid display of field events that included ‘Horse Riding Show’, ‘Yoga’, ‘PT Show’ and ‘Karate’. This was followed by track & field events by senior students that included 100 m races, 200 m races & 4x 100 m Relay Race. The students of the pre-primary wing also participated with great zeal and zest in 50 m ‘Cross the Tunnel Race’, 50 m ‘Cross the Box Race’ & 50 m ‘Hurdle Race’.
The Chief Guest, Lt, Gen.B.S Dhaliwal, in his address lauded the Sports Day event and stated that it was perfect. He said that he could gauge the efforts taken by teachers and students for such a flawless presentation.
This brought us to the Prize Distribution Ceremony. The Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the winners Sahilpreet Singh of XI & Ashpreet Kaur of XII were declared the Best Athletes 2017 in the Boys and Girls Category. The Falcon House was adjudged the Best House in the March Past & the Overall Best House Trophy was grabbed by the Tusker House. The Meet was declared closed by the Chief Guest. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Sports Girls Captain, Manveer Kaur Deol. The event saw its culmination with the National Anthem.
Annual School Fete and Art Exhibition Organized at DPS Khanna
A throng of people came to attend the function .Delicious and mouth watering food items such as ‘Pizza’. ‘Dosa’, ‘Chaat-Tikki’, were available at different stalls. They were relished by the visitors.
Apart from this, many on the spot competitions such as ‘Healthy Baby Show’, ‘Solo Song Competition, ‘ Solo Dance Competition , “Painting Competition’,‘ Fancy Dress Competition’ etc.got an overwhelming response.
The exciting game of ‘Tambola’was the centre of attraction. Joy rides, a variety of fun games such as ‘ Hit the Handee, ‘Disco Balls, ‘Target Your Aim’, ‘Hoopla’, ‘ Khatron ke Khilari’ etc. were also enjoyed by the visitors.
An Art Exhibition was also put up by the students of Delhi Public School Khanna. It exhibited the hidden talent of the students. A range of art & craft items, decoration pieces, paintings, landscapes, sculptures prepared by the students the year round were displayed in the exhibition.
Many attractive prizes were won by the lucky winners in the Lucky Draw Contest.
Mr. D.S. Bains lauded the hard work of the teachers who always act as the guiding force behind the students. He also extended his felicitation to all who made the function a grand success.
